Sam was born in Sheffield in 1985. He studied architecture at Manchester School of Architecture (2004-07) and at London Met School of Architecture under David Grandorge (2010-12), qualifying as an architect in 2014. He has worked on a number of award winning architectural projects, including the Flint House at Skene Catling de la Pena (RIBA House of the Year 2015) and The ZigZag Building at Lynch Architects (WAF World Office Building of the Year 2016). In 2017 he founded his own studio. His interests include spatial & geometric typology, the idea of “infrastructural” architecture, and the fractal nature of architectural relationships. He has been particularly influenced by the work of Gerhard Richter, Bernd and Hilla Becher and other photographers of the Dusseldorf School, and the research of Christopher Alexander.
